Good evening John Hay students, families, and staff,
With the district’s plan released last Friday there have been many questions regarding fall sports, and I waited to share any definitive information until we heard from the CMSD Athletics Office.
Today, CMSD’s Head Athletic Director, Desiree Powell, communicated with athletic directors and coaches that all fall sports have been canceled.
Teams that are completing Skills Training practices will continue to do so through the end of this week, Friday, July 31st, but there will be no further practices or a fall sports season.
I know this decision will upset many students, families, and coaches, but CMSD has made this decision in the best interest of the health, safety, and well-being of the community based on community feedback.
Additionally, we will not know the status of Winter or Spring sports until we get closer to those seasons and have a better grasp of the status of this health crisis. I have hope that by taking precautions now, those seasons will be able to take safely take place.
If you have any questions feel free to reach out to myself or the CMSD Athletics Office (CMSD Athletics: https://www.clevelandmetroschools.org/domain/1153).
